World Cup Qatar 2022
It is September 2018. The World Cup in Russia has recently come to a close, drawing vast approval from supporters around the world. Since the announcement in 2010, the decision to host the World Cup in Qatar has been rife with controversy. After successful World Cups in Brazil and Russia, FIFA is determined to maintain its impressive reputation.
FIFA has become increasingly concerned by the potentially disastrous World Cup in Qatar. In response to growing criticism regarding FIFA’s approach to the issues surrounding the 2022 World Cup, Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, has assembled this committee. Members in this committee include top FIFA officials who govern independent regional bodies, members of the Qatari elite, various human rights leaders, heads of player unions, and even a politically influential (former) soccer legend, Zinedine Zidane.
Members in this committee will be focusing on labor regulation, human rights, growing anti-gay sentiment, logistical issues such as temperature and construction, in addition to various other aspects of the game itself (goal line technology, instant replay). Delegates will have to be prepared to deal with crises involving labor strikes, potential boycotts, and other dilemmas pertaining to the aforementioned issues. All of these delegates will have contrasting views and will differ in their respective objectives.
Debates will ensue between all parties, as Qatari elite will go head to head with human rights advocates and numerous FIFA officials on issues such as the rights and treatment of migrant workers, and the strict anti-gay laws that have left a majority of players and supporters fuming. All of these issues will have massive repercussions if they are not addressed, and need to be resolved in order for a successful World Cup in 2022. There are no easy solutions to these problems, and it is your job to solve them. Time is running out, and we must protect the greatest sporting event in the world.
