Syrian Civil War and Refugee Crisis

The 21st century has been chaotic and violent in the Middle East, culminating in the past decade with violent insurrection in the Arab Spring protests, and the geopolitical cataclysm of the Syrian Civil war. This committee will attempt to address the civil war and the resulting humanitarian emergencies affecting the Middle East and the rest of the world. Although the military conflict between the Syrian government, terrorist, and rebel groups is the driving force behind the instability in the region, this committee will focus primarily on the resulting refugee crisis and the logistical as well as the ethical challenges it poses to the countries represented. Delegates will need to develop complex solutions to navigate the proxy wars, large displaced populations, and growing worldwide terror threats.
